Colored Pencils

Can eating too much turkey make you want to draw with colored pencils?  I think it can because it happened to me last week.  I really don't know much at all about colored pencils but I own a set.  I don't know why, probably from college.  I was inexplicably overcome by the urge to use them and this is the result.  After completing this drawing the feeling vanished as quickly as it came.

Such nice people

I was thrilled to see a list of really nice reviews of my Pop Quiz clock on the Art Institute of Chicago's Museum Shop website today.  I'm so happy to hear people are enjoying the clock.  These really made my day!

Corel Painter

I did some more experimenting today.  Here are my attempts at combining traditional and digital.  Which do you like the best?

Saturday, November 23, 2013

I did some experimenting in Adobe Illustrator today.  I like to create art with traditional media and then figure out how to replicate it in Illustrator.  Today's experiment was obviously India Ink and a brush.  I'm pretty excited about the results and will definitely be incorporating the techniques into my upcoming work.

Dinos in French!

I was googling myself today, (what doesn't everyone do that?) and I happened upon this version of my Dinosaur paper craft book printed in French.  I'm really excited because I've never seen any of my books in another language.  I hope someone is making my dinos in Paris.  That would make my day.

Pantone resistance is futile

What is it about Pantone's licensed product line that makes it so hard to resist?  I want everything they offer.  Yes, I have a Pantone business card case.  Yes, the Pantone journal is on my Amazon wish list.  I've always had a special place in my heart for those little brightly colored pieces of paper.  Whoever thought of putting them onto product was a genius.  Check out these adorable Pantone Christmas bulbs!  Are any other designers out there obsessed with Pantone's products?

I did a lot of culling of the list this past fashion season.  I judged on innovation, beauty, and influence on trends.  My own bias towards color, pattern, and the unique greatly influenced the list.  This is my updated list.

2013 MoMA cards

My new MoMA cards are up on the The Museum of Modern Art's website! Here are the newest cards that I illustrated. The Penguin Skiers was inspired by many great times at Ski Sundown with my childhood friend Sarah Hoffman.  Along with the new cards I have four older styles for sale too. Check them out here: MoMA Cards.  Or pop into their Museum store in NYC to see them in person!

I went to Sephora last week to find a new face wash to combat my shiny summer face.  I was blown away by how knowledgeable the sales people are there.  The guy I talked to knew everything there was to know about oily, sweaty, and sensitive skin.  He recommended Boscia's Oil-Free Daily Hydration SPF 15 and Boscia's Clear Complexion Cleanser.  I love both.  I am particularly impressed with the moisturizer.  It dries completely matte.  I think I'm going to have to go back to get the night moisturizer too.

He also figured out that part of my shiny problem was that I had run out of the Bare Minerals veil and was using the powder without it.  Apparently the powder is very shiny without the veil.  I think he said it was because of the mica.  But I could be wrong.  I am annoyed about this because the last time I went to Bare Minerals to buy more powder the sales woman said the veil wasn't necessary and don't bother spending the $$.  What?  Anyway, I bought some more veil and was pleasantly surprised to find out it now comes in a travel compact.  Hooray!

So the next time you see me make sure to notice how cool and matte I look in the hot summer heat!

The Aqua Treadmill is clever

Have you seen this Aqua Treadmill?  Basically, you propel it across the water by running inside of it.  It is seriously clever.  I first saw it on Urban Outfitters.  They have it there for $480.  That price is not a typo.  It's as expensive as it is cool.  Here's a video so you can see the awesomeness.

Bi-color roses are clever

I was searching the internet today and an advertisement came up for FTD's new bi-color roses in University colors for grads. I think they are so cool and I want the Syracuse one!! How on earth did they color these roses? I'm intrigued. This is a very clever gift!

As seen on TV

The Crossword Clock I conceptualized/designed was on the TV show Modern Family last night!  I'm really excited I can now say, "As seen on TV".  Attached is a screen shot of the scene.  If you feel the desire to own your own Crossword Clock they are available online at Target http://www.target.com/p/crossword-clock/-/A-14052497 .  It is currently only online, not in-stores.

Disney World is inspiring

I just returned from a trip to Orlando, FL.  Where I, of course, spent a few days at Disney World.  The parks always inspire me.  There is art in every nook and cranny.  Sometimes I find myself overwhelmed.

I know it's weird but I don't like taking photos when I am on vacation.  I prefer to experience my vacations not observe them.  Consequently and unfortunately, I don't have any photos to show.  But I managed to find some photos on disneyworld.com of the most inspiring attractions from my past trip.  Here they are:

Finding Nemo-The Musical
Finding Nemo – The Musical

Festival of the Lion King
Festival of the Lion King

The new ride Under the Sea-Journey of the Little Mermaid
Under The Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid

If you want to see more photos from the new ride, there are a ton on InsideTheMagic.com .  These are my two favorites:
Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid ride in New Fantasyland

Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid ride in New Fantasyland

You should definitely hit these three attractions on your next trip!

Reality TV

Have I mentioned lately that I love reality TV?  It appeals to the kid in me that always wanted to be able to read people's minds.

Here are the shows I'm currently watching:
Project Runway
Making Mr. Right
Shahs of Sunset
Snooki and Jwoww

Have I revealed too much about myself?

Artists' night out

I had a fun "Girls' night out" with the talented artists Elizabeth Matthews, Lesley Withrow, and Tiphany Giles (not pictured).  I guess you could call it an artists' night out too!
